but one hundred years later, the negro still is not free. one hundred years later, the life of the negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. one hundred years later, the negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. one hundred years later, the negro is still languished in the corners of american society and finds himself an exile in his own land. and so we've come here today to dramatize a shameful condition.
in a sense we've come to our nation's capital to cash a check. when the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the constitution and the declaration of independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every american was to fall heir. this note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the "unalienable rights" of "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." it is obvious today that america has defaulted on this promissory note, insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. instead of honoring this sacred obligation, america has given the negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked "insufficient funds."

对于体育赛事、健身活动，自己喜欢的、适合自己的，我都热衷参与，例如散步、登山、象棋之类。最近我参加州直机关运动会象棋赛，因棋艺不高，并没有争得个人名次，但是也为单位争得了一个团体名次。在我看来，象棋虽是一个游戏，但却也充满哲理智慧。要想下赢一盘棋，必须保持冷静理性的心态，清醒的头脑，还要有战略思维，也就是全局观念 ，通盘考虑，眼观六路。首先布局要恰当。排兵布阵，摆布好自己的阵脚，不要急于吃对方的子儿，以免因小失大。进入中盘厮杀后，在保证自己不被对方将死的情况下，能吃对方的子儿就尽量吃，以消灭其有生力量，积小胜为大胜，以量变求质变。进入残棋阶段，就像毛主席所说的那样，打运动战，在与对方兜圈子、比耐心的过程中，等待对方失误，寻找其漏洞。而一经发现对方的漏洞和失误，就要当机立断，主动进攻，造成有利于我的态势。如果在兵力上敌弱我强，在认定、确保对方对我没有绝杀(我们播州人叫“毒招”)的情况下，就要猛打猛冲，狠狠打击，让对方无法招架，从而举手投降。
这次参赛，还有意外收获。在大赛期间，棋类总裁判将他的佳作、大作《播州体育志(棋类)》《娄山关下的象棋大师(报告文学，写得文采飞扬)》复印好送给我分享。我读后大开眼界，茅塞顿开，从中得知家乡的象棋围棋事业因为藏龙卧虎、人才济济，因为有热心人、有心人、内行人精心扶持、耐心指点，而蒸蒸日上。原来我孤陋寡闻，只知道播州有位拳击冠军邹市明、皮划艇健将丁富学、马拉松女将丁常琴、长跑名将扬昌飞等，却不知播州还有王钢扣等象棋大师、围棋名将。感谢这位总裁判，他就是我们家乡的文体官员王继章同志。
