四年以前，当我们义无反顾地把我们的孩子送给南林的时候，我们看中的是南林优秀的老师们高尚的敬业精神，看中的是南林良好的育人环境，当然还有这所美丽的校园和校园外如画的风光。我们相信，我们的孩子在这里学习一定会很愉快，一定会很勤奋，也一定会很成功。今天，四年过去了，我们非常高兴、非常快慰地看到，我们的孩子在这里度过了愉快而勤奋的四年，他们取得了令人满意的学习成绩，以优秀的表现毕业。可以说，一切如期而至，一切如愿以偿。
作为家长，我们深深地知道，孩子们一切成绩的取得，都有赖于学校领导、教师、员工们的日夜操劳、精心培育，有赖于孩子们的勤奋刻苦、坚忍不拔。在此，我代表全体家长，诚挚地向每一位校领导、每一位老师、每一位员工，说一声，你们辛苦了，谢谢!同时，尽管我们经常教育孩子们说，你们不是为家长学习，而是为你们自己学习，但我们仍有许多孩子感觉也是在为家长学习，因此，我就代表家长，来满足孩子们的愿望，也向孩子们说一声，你们辛苦了，谢谢!

the truth is, success is a process—you can ask anybody whosquo;s been successful. i just passed on the lane up here here, successful restauranteur danny meyer, whosquo;s sitting here with his family—charles is graduating today. ask danny or anybody whosquo;s successful, you go to any one of his restaurants—shake shack, love it!—union square cafe, gramercy tavern—you will be impressed by not only the food, but the radical hospital and service. service is not just about when yousquo;re getting served.
when i started my talk show, i was just so happy to be on television. i was so happy to interview members of the ku klux klan. i thought i was interviewing them to show their vitriol to the world, and then i saw them using hand signals in the audience—and realized they were using me, and using my platform. then we did a show where someone was embarrassed, and i was responsible for the embarrassment. we had somehow talked a man who was cheating on his wife to come on the show with the woman he was cheating with and, on live television, he told his wife that his girlfriend was pregnant. that happened on mywatch.
shortly after i said: isquo;m not gonna do that again. how can i use this show to not just be a show, but allow it to be a service to the viewer? that question of "how do we serve the viewer?" transformed the show. and because we asked that question every single day from 1989 forward—with the intention of only doing what was in service to the people who were watching—that is why now, no matter where i go in the world, people say "i watched your show, it changed my life." people watched and were raised by that show. i did a good job of raising a lot of people, i must say. that happened because of an intention to be of service.
